If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is the favorite Drake project of people who don’t like Drake!
Like the cover, it’s raw, direct and unapologetic, quite strictly rap and almost unnatural as the Canadian’s soft side seems light years away from tracks like Energy.
Still the most influential artist, Drake started the surprise album trend while Boi-1da, 40 and Vinylz standardized the banger of the years to come, a cold and minimalist production that borrows both from Havoc dark loops than from Trap Muzik’s 808 patterns.
Drake solidified his contested status as a “rapper” and proved once more his songwriting talents through infectious choruses, “Twitter-ready” punchlines and this crazy transition that traumatized many of us when we first listened to Know Yourself.
